flared rufipes - Diaperis rufipes

flared rufipes - Diaperis rufipes
Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California, USA
August 21, 2020
D. rufipes is macropterous and has functioning wing muscles, although like many nonflightless tenebs it is extremely reluctant to fly. It will eventually open up elytra when upside down in an effort to right itself, which is how I photographed it with spread wings. Specimen was observed motionless on its host, probably ovipositing; no live conspecifics were visible at the time.
