What kind of katydid nymph is this? - Scudderia furcata - Male

Found at White Rock lake, off the side of the Sunset Bay pier. Only got the one shot. It looks different from the usual Scudderia. Can you tell gender at this stage? Also, even unprocessed, straight out of the camera, the legs had that bluish/purple tint, very odd.
