Asilid - Dasylechia atrox

Asilid - Dasylechia atrox
Rocky Run Fishery Area, Columbia County, Wisconsin, USA
August 29, 2020
Larger versions can be found here.

When I first found it, it was sitting on a low-hanging dead leafless partially charred branch of living oak tree. Branch was about 5.5-6.5 feet from forest floor. Oak/hickory forest/savanna.

While I was taking pics, it flew off, grabbed a bee and returned to its perch. After several minutes, it finished its meal and dropped the bee. This pic was taken after it had dropped the bee. After a while it tired of my presence. It took off, buzzed around me like a bumble bee 4-5 times and flew off.
