Tubeworm Moth? - Acrolophus mycetophagus

Tubeworm Moth? - Acrolophus mycetophagus
Edisto Beach, Colleton County, South Carolina, USA
May 15, 2005
Size: ~10mm, head to wingtips
Found in a tree a hundred yards or so from a large saltwater inlet. Daytime.

I ran it by Bob Patterson and he said this:

"This is close to 0368 -- Panama Grass-tubeworm Moth -- Acrolophus panamae and might even be that species....Getting them identified is a problem. You should see 3-4 species of these with those hair tufts."

Moved
Moved from Tubeworm Moths.

This may be
Frilly Grass-tubeworm Moth - Hodges#367.1 (Acrolophus mycetophagus) - see MPG website.
