Pyrochroidae larva - Schizotus cervicalis - female

Pyrochroidae larva - Schizotus cervicalis - Female
45 km NW of Dixonville, Alberta, Canada
May 5, 2008
The larva had squeezed itself inside a broken off chunk of aspen that I provided. I did not even see an entrance hole (they are amazingly flat) but she had hollowed out a length the size of her body within the wood. I had to open up the wood for a picture and the larva was moving around alot, so it was tough to focus well. 10 days later, I found the adult within the same crevice.
