Our Chinese chives (
Allium tuberosum) is still in full bloom and has been popular with the local honey bees (
Apis mellifera) and common eastern bumblebees (
Bombus impatiens). Today, however, I noticed one of the visiting bumble bees looked different, and realized it's abdominal hair was reddish brown.
After looking online, I think it's just a morph of
B. impatiens:
It's been very windy the last couple days, which has made photographing pollinators difficult. My best photos all either have motion blurring or are slightly out of focus, but I felt I had to capture this and post it here since we mostly just have
B. impatiens in this neighborhood and I was under the initial impression that this was a different species. Still, I am excited with this sighting.
