Calligrapha ? - Calligrapha alni

Calligrapha ? - Calligrapha alni
Grantsburg, Burnett County, Wisconsin, USA
June 10, 2008
Size: Ladybug sized
Location was recently logged hardwood mix forest area. Speckled alder is present, poplar, birch, aspen, oak, cottonwood all common. Beetle size would be ladybug to slightly larger. When it flew it jumped into flight from my hand forcefully, but flea beetles in bugguide did not have a similar coloring.

Thanks for any input!

The free subsutural stripe definitely places it in the C. philadelphica species group of which c. alni is a member.

I found another one in the same general location (within a mile) on June 17 that appeared to be feeding on a Lupine leaf (or testing its taste). The beetle would lift up and seemed to push down hard on the leaf. Adding an image of this. There is a spot on the leaf at the lower right but I dont know if this was this beetles activity or another insects work.
