Beartooth Plateau Apollos (different subspecies?) - Parnassius smintheus

Beartooth Plateau Apollos (different subspecies?) - Parnassius smintheus
Red Lodge, Beartooth Mountain Plateau, ~10,500 feet elevation, Carbon County, Montana, USA
August 16, 2020
P. smintheus specimens collected this summer atop the Beartooth Plateau. I'm still a bit confused by the current subspecies breakdowns for this species. The specimen in the lower right looks so dissimilar from the other three. Is it currently considered a subspecies of P. smintheus or is it a "depends on who you ask" situation? I appreciate any info or additional resources folks can provide.

Not an expert on this species but appears to be variable
and numerous subspecies are listed under Butterflies of America. These specimens appear to be Parnassius smintheus smintheus http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/t/Parnassius_s_smintheus_a.htmbut baased on location are more likely maximus subspecies. http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/t/Parnassius_smintheus_maximus_a.htm
