Probably Needham's Skimmer - Female - Libellula needhami

Probably Needham's Skimmer - Female - Libellula needhami
Hilton Head, Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA
June 11, 2008
Taken along Port Royal Sound in grassy area. I think it is a male Golden-Winged Skimmer, but I am not sure. Thanks!

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies.

Vein at the front of the wings
looks dark which would lead us to say Needham's instead, but can't really see details. Would suggest gender as female though!

Yeah
Definitely female, and most likely Needham's, but I would like a little bit clearer view of the wings to say for sure. In a coastal area like Hilton Head I would expect Needham's to be by far the more common species, but that is just a hunch based on my experience elsewhere.

Thanks!
I am sorry I don't have any better wing shots of this one. I really couldn't get any closer because of the location, but I will try again another day. Thanks though! Carol
