Caterpillar on my rose bush - Euclea

Caterpillar on my rose bush - Euclea
College Station, Brazos County, Texas, USA
November 29, 1999
I found this caterpillar awhile ago on my rose bush, I have yet to figure out what it is. Sorry the picture's fuzzy.

spiny oak slug
This looks like the spiny oak slug Euclea delphinii.

I wish I had better pictures so I could see the markings. Can the oak and rose slugs live on several plant species?

If I find another, I think I'll run up to Best Buy and buy a sweet digital camera (although I'm not sure which one would be the best), and take some more pictures for y'all.

Thank You!!

Careful, irritating stinging hairs likely
Check out some of these

Ever since I found out certain caterpillars can sting, I'm always afraid to try and pick anything up...LOL! I saw that slug caterpillar about a year ago (the date on the picture is wrong) and I haven't seen one since. It looks like the moths are fairly large so I'm surprized I haven't seen any of the adults.

I'll keep looking!

Thank You for answering so fast!
