Calico Pennant - Celithemis elisa - male

Calico Pennant - Celithemis elisa - Male
Volo Bog, Lake County, Illinois, USA
June 12, 2008

Those terminal appendages
seem to say male to us, not female

That was my first impression,
but I misinterpreted the text of my giude. Should I expect to see red cerci in only an older male?

Seems reasonable that all parts
of the male would become red with age. Look in the guide for some of the females and note the difference in the shape and location of the terminal appendages.
