Brown waterscorpion, Ranatra fusca?, preying on backswimmer
Clinging to club rush in shallows of ca. 70’ x 40’ pond we had dug in 2016. Was researching giant water bugs online and came across picture of waterscorpion. Had never seen one or heard of them before, but read they were common, so went back out to pond to see if we had any. Spotted 20 of them while walking around pond, all but 2 in similar position to picture, but only this one with prey. Other 2 were swimming awkwardly on surface.
