Large Ant in my basement - Camponotus

Large Ant in my basement - Camponotus
Reston, VA, USA, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
June 13, 2008
Size: ~3/4"
I found this little guy in my basement. I cannot find out what type of ant it is. It's a brownish maroon, with a littler yellowish brown rear.

Moved
Moved from Ants.

Camponotus species
Looks like Camponotus castaneus queen. Could also be Camponotus americanus but I'm not sure they're found that high. I know C. castaneus was flying here in NJ recently.
Camponotus is a genus that includes most of our carpenter ants but these two species nest in sandy soil.
