Large Wolf Spider - Schizocosa - female

Large Wolf Spider - Schizocosa - Female
Skyline Ridge OSP, San Mateo County, California, USA
June 14, 2008
Size: 2-3 cm
This large wolf spider ran onto my mom's shoe and obligingly posed for photos. It then ran back into a hole in the ground. Found on a dry, grassy hillside. I think this is an adult female wolf spider. Maybe a Hogna sp.? Is there any way to get it to genus? I couldn't collect the spider due to local regulations.
