Size: About an inch
I saw this spider when I was walking home from college one day. I'm curious as to what kind of spider it is because I've never seen one like this before, or this big.

It is a harmless female orb weaver
She is fat and full of eggs! The image is a little bright, but we would say this is Araneus diadematus, a diadem of loveliness!

That was my guess as well. Put her in a corner or a potted plant on the balcony and the next morning you may well see a beautiful web (and/or an egg sac).

I took the picture last summer and there was no way I was going to touch it. I am definitely not a fan of spiders. I was surprised with myself that I got close enough to actually take the picture. :)
