Thanks-- I don't have a photo with the arista in focus, but there are definitely black hairs on the scutellum.

Brachyopa … female.
Whether the arista is hirsute is difficult to see but the scutellum looks to have black hairs and tergites with continuous black edging and hind femora dark toward tip makes me think this is Brachyopa notata.
I have sent it to Dr. Martin Hauser for his opinion.

Surely Brachyopa. But I have about twice the number of described species in my collection... so I am not doing a species ID, because this needs a revision (although most new species are in the west)
