Yes, definitely a spider beetle.

 
I agree.
This looks like Mezium americanum, the "American spider beetle." These are very small insects, though (2-3 mm), and no idea of the size was given.

not sure...
I'm not sure if it had wings. It was hard to tell. Any other ideas?
