Periodical Cicada - Magicicada septendecim Knob Creek (Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home), LaRue County, Kentucky, USA June 8, 2008
These 17 year cicadas were everywhere, drowning out all other noise with their calls. Each tree contained hundreds of empty shells running all the way up the trees and the adults were flying all over the place. It was a pretty amazing sight (and auditory delight). I also got photos of some half way out of their shells (will include one copy of that as well).
