Texas SE Gulf Coast - Life cycle - Asciodes gordialis - male

Texas SE Gulf Coast - Life cycle - Asciodes gordialis - Male
29.042732, -95.419642 Lake Jackson, Brazoria County, Texas, USA
October 12, 2020
Size: ~20mm total length
Myriad larvae devastated in ground Bougainvillea (2.5m W x 4m H). After cutting plant down to 1m found several larvae in loosely stitched chewed rolled leaves. Collected one to see if these were Asciodes gordialis. Given the extreme number of larvae only 2 adults appeared at lights; either they were parasitized or eaten, or they aren't typically attracted to lights. The collected larva appeared to make forays from its "home" leaf to feed, returning to the same leaf.
