===============================
November 2023.
Four years later, I have reviewed this specimen with more knowledge and expertise (with my microscope and built in camera). I have added 4 images.

I just ran this specimen through Bousquet's key (1) to Dyschirius to Dyschirius analis.

The following characters shown in pictures recently added point to D. Annals.

- Elytral striae 3-6 usually impressed behind the third discal puncture (new picture).
- Clypeofrontal suture superficial (barely seen in picture of face).
- Frons smooth, not rugose (wrinkled).
- Body length 3.0-4.2 mm.
- Elytra black or dark brown.
- Elytral vertical part of base pale yellowish. Very difficult to catch in pictures.
- Elytron with 3 discal setigerous punctures.
- Elytron without coppery spots.
- Elytral intervals 1, 5, and 7 without setigerous punctures.
- Elytron with base not marginated inside shoulder.
- Pronotum and elytra without microsculpture.
- Anterior half of the elytron with 3 subhumeral setigerous punctures(1 seta missing from one puncture).
- Clypeus with two projections (not convex) at middle of anterior margin.
- Pronotum with lateral bead not extended to level of posterolateral setigerous puncture.

Species key by Bousquet 1988 in Canadian Entomologist supersedes
Lindroth's earlier key. Glen, I would like to read your findings from that very accurate & complete key. I'm uncomfortable suggesting species names for most posted images of Dyschirius. Otherwise, I'm quite confident in my physical determinations which are backed by an extensive synoptic set for species comparisons.

I understand.
Thanks for looking and giving me the push to use that key. I looked at it earlier, but for some reason I didn't use it.

Bousquet's key did work I think and I hope you agree. If you aren't comfortable advancing it to species I understand. My pictures at least have gotten better with finer details this year.

I now read that you did use Bousquet's key.
Glen, if you're comfortable with your determination, please proceed with species placement in celebration of your very thorough study. Congratulations!

Thanks Peter.
I'm glad I got it moved away from just a subgenus. Now I gotta find out if he is the only one or if there are other puzzles here to solve.

New images and pointers to characters.
I have added the last 4 images and more text in the above comments about the pictures. I hope this will help with a species designation.

looks a lot like haemorrhoidalis to me
they sometimes come to my porch lights in great numbers

Moved from Dyschirius.

My error...
Thanks. Back on track.

I remember reading that couplet about the punctures incorrectly. I think I looked at the elytra and not the unbillicate series. But then that might have got me more confused because Paradyschirius or Dyschirius isn't even mentioned in Arnett (1).

So twice the thanks.
