Saropogon in Profile - Saropogon luteus
Hwy 33, N of Lockwood Valley Rd, Ventura County, California, USA

Size: 10 mm

Moved from Saropogon.

Lovely
Only five in CA, which is a small group compared to some. S. albifrons, hyalinus, luteus, mohawki and semiustus. S. hyalinus and luteus are endemic.

S. semiustus and hyalinus are desert lovers. This is not albifrons. S. luteus is the most common species and is described as mostly reddish with clear wings except the veins.

Habitat data
Thanks for the info. This was certainly common at several sites that day. The habitat was arid, high juniper woodland with a scattering of oaks, if that helps. Also, did you catch the face shot I posted of another one feeding on a bee fly?
