Sap-flow Chrysomelid - Cryptocephalus

Sap-flow Chrysomelid - Cryptocephalus
Horse Hill Nature Reserve, Merrimack, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
November 21, 2020
Size: app. 4 mm
This beetle was found feeding beside a weeping canker on the trunk of a white birch, Betula papyrifera. When I saw this it I thought it was a scolytine weevil, but closer inspection of the photo showed that it's actually a leaf beetle (it looks like or similar to Cryptocephalus tinctus).
While the temperatures managed to reach the high 50's (°F), I still wasn't expecting that I'd come across a chrysomelid much less one feeding from a sap flow like this.
