A neat Robber Fly. You can just see some colors on it's abdomen. Would that help in an ID? I'm adding a 2nd image of it's face.

There is a pair with a small amount
of golden orange on the thorax. We have them filed here in the Laphria index / ithypyga complex. Herschel may be able to tell you more based upon your location.

That is the right pairing. There are some details in the male 6th and terminal segments which separate the two. Easy under a scope. Impossible otherwise. We catch almost nothing but index here.
