Moth - Lytrosis heitzmanorum

Moth - Lytrosis heitzmanorum
McGaheysville, Rockingham County, Virginia, USA
May 31, 2008
I think that this is a Common Lytrosis moth - Lytrosis unitaria. Would that be correct. Incredible markings on it.

Lytrosis spp.
I disagree. Lytrosis heitzmanorum was described from a population found west of the Appalachian mountains.

Moved from Moths.

Lytrosis
The PM line is too sinuous for unitaria. Using the descriptions by Rindge (See "A Revision of the Moth Genus Lytrosis" by Rindge {pdf file}, for descriptions & key to species), I would say it's a Lytrosis heitzmanorum.

However, I'm not aware of heitzmanorum's northmost range. L. sinousa is very close and does occur in the area, but I really believe that based on chracteristics, this is most likely L. heitzmanorum.
