Hopper ID - Rugosana querci

Hopper ID - Rugosana querci
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
June 17, 2008
Size: ~3mm
With a mite attached. Host plant was young oak tree.

Mite or Dryinid larva?
Are we sure that the attached creature is a mite instead of a Dryinid larva?

Moved from Rugosana.

Moved from Gyponana querci.

Moved from Leafhoppers.

Reminds me of Gyponana
but you should wait for a more expert opinion. Great shot, especially with that cool mite.

Gyponana querci
This is the only species of Gyponini on oaks in the eastern USA.

Looks similar to me...
Thanks, the mite looks like an M&M stuck under there :^) Even at that small size, it stood out and I probably wouldn't have seen the little nymph otherwise.
