Looks to me like
this
female twostriped walkingstick, Anisomorpha buprestoides (the big one).
According to Wikipedia "stick bug" is a common name for the Phasmatodea order of insects which includes walkingsticks. I guess that means you were right.
I like your web site. Positive reinforcement for a rhino sounds like a good policy. It probably helps to be a fast runner if you hit him!
