Black and Red Moth - Eichlinia cucurbitae

Black and Red Moth - Eichlinia cucurbitae
Springfield, Calhoun County, Michigan, USA
June 19, 2008
Size: BL: 19mm
Found sitting in on a leaf in an overgrown area with many plants, including grapevines, all sorts of trees, etc. It was happy sitting on my hand and grooming. I don't know what plant it was on. We couldn't get wingspan and I didn't want to try too hard in fear of hurting it. It looks like a moth to me but I can't find it. Can anyone help? Male or Female? Thanks!

Squash vine borer.
This is one of the squash vine borers in the Sesiidae. Great images of a fresh specimen.

That was Quick
Thanks, Eric.
