This has been determined to be Froeschneria piligera, a Lygaeid.

oh really?
you mean, someone examined the specimen? Then why didn't you label your fine image accordingly? The Guide has no other pic of this bug, so it's a very nice addition. The classification adopted here has Rhyparochromidae (and every other former subfamily of Lygaeidae) as a separate family, while nearctica.com, for one, still retains Lygaeidae in the traditional broader sense (to which i'm more accustomed). In the Guide Froeschneria should be placed in Rhyparochromidae.

I'm sorry. I have so much stuff out seeking determination, and finding new things all the time, that I never can keep everything. When I get a BG notice of a change and go to update my database but then see that I already have an identification, then I try to correct it.
Sometimes I have forgotten that something is on BG as it has been so long with no update and I have mistakenly added the image in duplicate. Like a lot of moths that have no family even after years.

don't be sorry --
you're doing such an incredible, top-notch job here, and make a big difference. I'm now reviewing all the un-IDed deposits piled up for years (mostly in beetles & true bugs) and trying to push down to genera &c as much items as i can with my handy ref. sources, so i guess i'll be coming across your older posts again and again. (but not lepidoptera -- don't know first thing about them)
