June 26, 2020
Size: 3.7 mm
Elevation 700', GPS = 38.8198, -121.1173.

Taken from 20 watt UV light bucket trap.

Add CA to the BugGuide distribution map of Xyletinus.
Species possibly X. rotundicollis if the key is still valid.

I used keys to species in White (1) & (2). In those keys, exact measurements of this specimen were required for some characters in the species keys.

-- Ratio of length/width = 1.8 (3.7mm/2mm). Body less elongate, 1 .6 to 2.0 times as long as wide
-- Antennal segments length/width = 1.25 (0.20mm/0.16mm). Antennal segments as wide as long to a little wider than long.
-- Outer face of anterior tibia concave throughout, not only the apical half.
-- Head lacking a median carina.
-- Metasternnm lacking a carina. The line in the ventral view is a groove or sulcus, not a raised line.

Hope this helps define which species this is.
