On a night time meander in a planted prairie, found aphids on Showy tick-trefoil, Desmodium canadense, and this larva.

Don't have the dark ring around the siphunculi
M. olivei has the large dark pre and post siphuncular sclerities, but M. variabilis has dusky post and pre siphuncular sclerites so they don't form that dark ring. These look weird though, especially the alate. Perhaps the host plant wasn't healthy so they didn't develop correctly.
