Euxoa divergens?
I am pretty sure this is
Euxoa divergens
. Can you please run by Lars again?

Thanks, Steve.
I asked Lars to take another look at this specimen this morning and he kindly emailed me this afternoon. This is what Lars wrote:
"I took a look. Pretty sure it's not divergens - no transverse lines on costa, white veins on distal wing, or prominent am line on the posterior wing. I spent some time comparing idahoensis group with divergens and those features all stood out. If you challenged me to say that it's not Euxoa castanea I would have a harder time. Dark idahoensis and castanea can be similar." --Lars Crabo (14 December 2023)

I stand corrected
Thanks Carl and please convey my thanks to Lars! His comments will be really helpful for me and others that encounter this species and some of the very similar ones. We only have a couple of
idahoensis
posted here at BugGuide and the white cubital vein on yours really stood out from the others. I am currently catching up on a couple years of Noctuidae backlog here on BugGuide and I bet we end up with a couple more of these that look like yours being posted here in the near future.

Thanks, Steve.
I sent your note to Lars. Lars wrote back saying, 'Tell Steve that he's welcome to contact me directly anytime.'

contacting Lars
I greatly appreciate the offer from Lars. If I keep at this for the next couple of years, I will undoubtedly need to take him up on this sometime. If I do need to contact him, I probably should be able to get his contact info from Jim Vargo.
