Water Walking Stick - Ranatra

Water Walking Stick - Ranatra
Lindale, Smith County, Texas, USA
April 29, 2016
This water walking stick emerged from a large puddle of water which dries up in the heat of the summer. The puddle is no more than 24 inches deep and covers about an 1,800 square foot area. The water is very clear with lots of frogs, dragonflies, damselflies, and water bugs. Most of the top soil in the area is sand, but there is white clay beneath the sand and the area was once a productive white brick manufacturing area, now abandoned.
