I believe the lighter shade might be due to
the difference in techniques to produce the images. This series is composed of single shots of a live bug using a handheld camera. The previous series was the result of focus-stacking dissecting microscope images (~20 images per each composite photo) of a dead specimen. Using these two approaches on the same specimen will produce dramatically different results.

Interesting.
I didn't know that, but the color difference really didn't bother me. I wrote it off as simply natural variation within a species.
