What is this insect? - Microcentrum
Elbridge, Onondaga County, New York, USA

Can anyone tell me what this insect is? Could it be a baby grasshopper? Is it a pest or beneficial insect? I've seen several of them on my various flower plants this year.

Moved
Moved from False Katydids.

Moved from Katydids.

We would say immature Katydid
and from the shape maybe Amblycorypha, in the guide here

More likey a Microcentrum.
Hind legs look too short to be Amblycorypha, but can't be absolutely positive from only this one image.
