Halloween Pennant? - Libellula semifasciata

Halloween Pennant? - Libellula semifasciata
Portland, Cumberland County, Maine, USA
June 22, 2008
Perched on a dead stalk for a while. At first I though it was a twelve spot but the yellow cast of the wings - not a great photo for IDing, I know - made me think of something else.

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies.

Was it as large as a 12 spot?
You wouldn't mistake a delicate pennant for a Libellula. If you really first thought 12 spot, then we would guess it is Libellula and would suggest Libellula semifasciata - Painted Skimmer, in the guide here. The perfect mix of 12 spot and Halloween!!

Thanks
Thanks again J and J! That's a good suggestion. Not sure it was fully as large as a twelve spot -- nor the wings as long -- but it only allowed me a bit of time. I like the Painted Skimmer for it, but I am a little bit troubled by the very slight whitish bits on wings...do you think Painted Skimmer has those?
