Orb Weaver - Mangora placida

Orb Weaver - Mangora placida
Fontenelle Forest, Sarpy County, Nebraska, USA
June 23, 2008
Size: small
Please help to identify this spider - sorry about lack of focus. Thanks.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

Check out Mangora placida
in the guide here. They are tough to photograph. Small and blowing in the wind, and if you try a flash it makes the white body blinding white! But keep trying - we are too!

Exposure settings
Hi John and Jane, For these particular spiders, try setting your camer to P, S, or A mode. Next set your exposure to 1/125 sec or faster and adjust the f/ stop to as small as you can get. I use f/36 at 1/200 sec plus flash. I can also adjust the flash compensation from -3EV to +1EV at 1/3EV increments. By doing this, I can usually elimanet the extreme bright white and you get great depth of field. Don't know if this would work with a macro lens, but I doubt it.

Thanks for the instant respon
Thanks for the instant response. I usually shoot in natural light. But I also tries a flash on this one because the canopy is now closed. You're right, it comes out white. I should have tried to coax her onto a leaf.
