Size: body maybe 2" long
I also came across this dragonfly and thought it was pretty. would love to know the species. any help would be appreciated.

I am no expert, but I believe it is a Sable Clubtail, localized Appalachian area species (up to NY NJ PA).

Looks like
a member of the Clubtail family (Gomphidae), but I don't know which one. Best wait for an expert.
