Scorpion in Florida? - Centruroides hentzi

Scorpion in Florida? - Centruroides hentzi
Tampa Orlando, Florida, USA
June 23, 2008
Size: 2 inches long
I almost died when I saw a scorpion on my kitchen floor this morning. I never knew they were indiginous to Florida? Sorry the picture is fuzzy, but I'm learning to use my camera while at the same time learning about bugs, plants, trees, and birds. :)

Yep, male Centuroide hentzi.
Yep, male Centuroide hentzi. The sting hurts, but theyre not considered a medically significant species. Theyre good to have around as they LOVE to eat cockroaches.

It's definitely a scorpion
But...to blurry too tell anything.

There are scorpions in Florida though.

I redid the picture - it's much clearer now
Thanks for letting me know that there ARE scorpions in Florida.

Much better
Take a look at Centruroides hentzi.

Don't be alarmed by it, it's harmless.

Thanks
THANKS for the picture and the comment about it being harmless. I needed that :) THANKS SO MUCH
