Here is the chief difference between a male, left, and a female Spicebush Swallowtail. On the males, there is a band of light coloring in the median area of the hindwing that is not present on the female.

The male was photographed on August 11th, 2007, and the female on August 3rd, 2007.

Size
And from my personal experience, males tend to be noticeably smaller than the females. The picture above shows this feature off because both specimens are photographed at the same scale. The bodies appear to be the same size, only the wings are smaller on the male.

What marking of underside distinguishes male from female?

 
I don't know that there are m
I don't know that there are many differences in markings on the undersides of the wings. Maybe an expert knows if there are any to distinguish them apart?
