Not fire ants.
These ants are in the genus Crematogaster, known as "acrobat ants." The heart-shaped abdomen, which looks like it is suspended underneath the petiole joining it to the thorax, is distinctive.

Acrobat Ants
Thank you Eric. The ants were so intent on their work, they didn't even notice I was taking their pictures.
