Spindle Galls on Hickory Leaf - Caryomyia

Spindle Galls on Hickory Leaf - Caryomyia
Peachtree Corners, Gwinnett County, Georgia, USA
October 21, 2020
Spindle type galls observed on undersides of Hickory leaves (Carya sp.). Based upon host and similar appearance possibly a Hickory Smooth Gumdrop Gall Midge (Caryomyia sanguinolenta) (?) The spindle galls were pretty scattered. Typically distributed singly (rarely two) per leaf.

Note: In addition to these spindle galls two other types of Hickory leaf galls were present on this same Hickory sapling. One of them was confirmed to be a Hickory Bullet Gall Midge (Caryomyia tubicola) and the other one was presumably some other type of Hickory Gall Midge (Caryomyia sp.). (Thanks)
