Potter Wasp - Parancistrocerus leionotus - female

Potter Wasp - Parancistrocerus leionotus - Female
Richmond Green Park, Richmond Hill (N43º53'58.8"W079º23'51.3"elev.195m), York Region, Ontario, Canada
June 18, 2008
Size: 12 mm
This wasp was resting on a concrete step, while an attending male attempted to mount her. Also keyed to Parancistrocerus leionotus, but I would like to get it checked before moving to species. The individuals of the pair was significantly larger than the male that I had found a few hours earlier at a different location.

Moved
Moved from Potter and Mason Wasps. The find on a concrete step is typical since this species nests in concrete bubbles, cavities in rocks, etc. See Biology paragraph for P. leionotus in the Vespid Atlas.

Thanks for the information.
The step was heavily-pitted in bubbles. While I didn't observe any nest entries, it makes sense now that the wasps should be interested in the concrete.
