Lebia grandis - male

Lebia grandis - Male
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 3, 2005
Size: 10 mm
Composite showing anatomic details helpful in keying based on Ciegler, Ground Beetles of South Carolina. (1)
A: setigerous punctures along sides and rear corner of elytra.
B: Rear (apex) of elytra, showing three punctures placed in a triangle on the corner. Also note the little beveled triangular gap between the two elytra (plica). This helps confirm the genus--see Ciegler, fig. 76, p. 18. (1)
C: Front left leg, showing spine in a small concavity of tibia (arrow). This is couplet 1 in Ciegler's, fig. 218, p. 122 (1) key for species in the genus. (Note errata correcting fig. 218--I believe one can just see the spine under the setae indicated by the arrow in this photo.) The size (10 mm) and green color of the elytra are also consistent.
