unknown Silphadae - Male Female
Nashville area
March 4, 2021
Size: just over a centimeter
All found on a dry deer carcass in the woods. Didn't see any larva, but expect to since I took all I could find home with me (planning on using them for taxidermy, to clean skulls, etc). The one I handled secreted a brownish liquid that smelled terrible. Some of them have noticeable "tails" while others do not. Abdomen is striated (lines running down it), pronotum is similarly textured, if a bit more bumpy.

The possible species I've narrowed it down to so far are: A. bituberosa, H. ramosa, O. inaequale, O, rugulosa, S. tristis, and several Thanatophilus sp.

If anyone has any insight please let me know!!

I think that they are probably Ridged Carrion Beetles Oiceoptoma inaequale. (eastern)
