Olethreutinae, Ragweed Borer stem of Common Ragweed - Epiblema strenuana

Olethreutinae, Ragweed Borer stem of Common Ragweed - Epiblema strenuana
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 20, 2020
July 10, 2020: checking for herbivory evidence on stems of Common ragweed, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, collected 2 stems, one with roots.
July 14, 2020: opened both stems, one with a Papaipema nebris larva and the other larva I didn’t get a good look at but it was not a Pap. It was associated with a stem swelling near the base of the plant.
August 1-2, 2020: 5 gall flies, patterned wings

August 7, 2020: saw a spent pupa anchored in the stem, looked for the moth which blended in with the plant roots. It was beat up so must have been out for a while. Photographed and released.
