undetermined larva, dorsal
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
August 30, 2020
August 22, 2020: collected flower bud galls on Green-headed coneflower, Rudbeckia laciniata of Cecidomyiidae, Asphondylia rudbeckiaeconspicua (I hope I spelled that correctly.)

August 30, 2020: moth larva emerged from galls
September 2, 2020: a second moth larva emerged from galls
September 13, 2020: found both larva nearly downed in water from chewing down the stem, thru the plastic/rubber water stops into the water. They appeared dead but must have found them quick enough that given some time they were moving again. They appear to be stem borers and perhaps as eggs or tiny larvae the gall formed around them.
September 25, 2020: one larva out of stem eating leaf, gave it another stem

Rearing failed, both larvae died.
