Not quite sure...
but this could be a species of Brachysomida. Too much pollen to see details, and some of these just need to be examined in hand to be sure of an ID.

 
Brachysomida
Looks like the non-blue form of B. californica. These guys fool me every time I see them.

 
Cleaning
If I were to brush off the pollen, which details should I photograph?

 
If you can careafully brush off the pollen
and then capture an image from a direct dorsal view, so that the shape of the pronotum is clear. Might want to tip the beetle's butt down a bit, since the pronotum is tipped forward so much...

I agree with Brady...Brachysomida californica, the brown morph.

 
Relaxing
I will relax it, so as not to damage my one specimen, and go at it again. I'll put in a comment when I post the improved photos.
