Unknown Large Caterpillar - Sphinx chersis

Unknown Large Caterpillar - Sphinx chersis
Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA
June 24, 2008
Size: 3" Long X ~1/2" Diameter
Pre-butterfly or moth? I'm leaning toward moth, but will appreciate an ID from someone in the know.

Underside was unpatterned green and it had small feet. Observed mid-morning in a xeriscaped area away from any obvious food source.

Possibly Great Ash Sphinx
see Sphinx chersis. Pale blue horn, stripes and white face stripe all fit. There may be similar related spp. of which I'm not aware. The pinkish color is most likely a color change prior to pupation - it's common in sphinx moths.

Pre-moth
It's a kind of sphinx, that much I can tell you.
