I'm not sure what this is but it makes me think of a whitefly pupa. Found on the side of a beech tree.

There is only one genus in North America in this family. However, there are several species. BOLD has only one specimen, from Africa.
Please let me know if you find out any more information.

I think that is probably a False Pit Scale, but I'm not sure of the species.
