scale insect?

scale insect?
Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA
March 14, 2021
Size: 4mm
I found this (scale insect) and left it under the camera long enough to capture movement.  I lost track, of it once it crawled onto the leaf, and I started shooting wildly.  It was not until I got the pictures on the computer did I see the little critter off to the side.  Can you explain?

Mite
I am not sure about the identity of the scale insect, but the little critter is a mite, probably a parasite of some sort.

Thanks Josephd
Bummer, what is bad, I thought for six days that I had the scale insect completely isolated.
